Where to propose?!?!?! S. California?

I plan to propose to my girlfriend of almost 5 years sometime within the next two months. However, I need some help planning on where and how to do it. Long story short - I wanted to propose in Vegas, but that plan won't happen because because of unnamed reasons. We live in Los Angeles, and we want to get away from this city a little bit. It would be a one-day trip, early morning to late night. I am thinking of two scenarios: San Diego and Santa Barbara. San Diego sounds more appealing to me because a) its a bit closer to LA b) I think there are more clubs in San Diego than Santa Barbara. My ideal day would be early morning get to our destination, then have some activities in the city, then propose while watching the sunset either at a private boat or intimate restaurant, then go to a club to celebrate, then head home. Please don't be limited to only San Diego or Santa Barbara in your response. I don't know anything about the OC...maybe there are good activities there. If you want any more info, ask away. I have a little more than two months which is perfect timing. Hope to hear from all you guys/girls.
