What can I do to get into the University Of California-Santa Barbara?

I'm currently a junior and my grades are about average. I'm not exactly sure what my GPA is but it's not that high. I do sports and some extra curricular and I'm doing community service/volounteer work ect. I'm taking the SATS the begginning of next fall- my question is what else should i be doing to get in? Or since my grades are about average and it's so competitive should i take a year off or a couple semesters and take classes to get my grades up to get accepted? I'v done some research into the school and it sounds amazing and I'm now wishing i did better in school to be able to get in. Is there any way i still can? :(
